Pocahontas County is known as the "Birthplace of rivers"
with eight of the finest trout steams in the Mid-Atlantic and south east
originating within the county. the fishing season starts in April
and lasts through November on the following Rivers: Cherry River, Gauley
River, Shavers Fork of the Cheat, Cranberry River, Greenbrier River,
Tygart River, Elk River, New River and Williams River.
